"excellent characteristic hotel"

This is a characteristic cottage decorative style hotel with lots of charm and charisma. Fantastic food, location, views, spacious bedrooms and very friendly staff. The only downfall was no hot water until requested. All 5 of us agreed that it was excellent value and will definately repeat the experience of booking there again.

"Nice and warm on a freezing winter`s night"

Nice clean and warm room, though there was an odd lingering chemically odour that would probably not be there if it was warm enough to open the windows! I had fish cake for supper that were not very good at all unfortunately, full of potatoes rather than fish. Also it costs me £22 in taxis to and from the airport, so the good price I got was soon eaten up, unlike the fish cakes..!

"I WOULD NOT GO BACK SUMS IT UP."

FOOD AWFUL. WAFER THIN BEDROOM WALLS. BADLY IN NEED OF A REFIT. RURAL LOCATION EXCELLENT. SHAME ABOUT THE AIR TRAFFIC. THE HOTEL BEING ON THE DIRECT FLIGHT PATH WITH STANSTEAD. TAKE SOME EAR-PLUGS FOR SLEEPING.

"No hot water"

Hi, we did not have any hot water (and therefore no shower facilities) available over our 2 night stay.

"A lovely traditional small hotel with excellent staff."

The hotel was very nice, although our bathroom needs attention and updating, and the staff were very friendly and more than accommodating for all of our needs. However, nowhere was it stated that it was directly in the flight path of Stansted Airport; not good when you have two small children trying to sleep.

"Pleasant stay and friendly staff"

It was a ideal location for Stansted Airport and the staff were very friendly, despite us not arrioving until the early hours of the morning. It was a comfortable room and lovely breakfast.The only critism would be that the bathroom could have done with a bit of a "spruce up" although was clean.Would recommend.

"A hotel full of character, and extremly helpful staff."

The hotel is very old but holds lots of character, the grounds are very picturesque. The rooms are very spacious and clean, each holds its own charm. We organised a function and were not disappointed with how it went! Food was great. The staff were extremley helpful, the hotel was well run and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this hotel as a place to hold a function or just to enjoy the area.

"Really nice room - all staff were very accommodating and helpful."

As we were one of the guests staying amongs a big party we had a function in the evening and the staff were very helpful, attentive and made sure that everything was ready for the evening the bar staff coped very well even though he was on his own - he was great with the children. Food was very good. Thank you

"Serevice and food were excellent, the breakfast being superb."

The hotel is extremely well placed for Stanstead Airport and it holds lots of character and charm, however overall the hotel is rather shabby and tired looking and could certainly do with a complete refurbishment.. Having said that, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the food was excellent as well as the service, nothing was too much trouble. The staff work tirelessly. Its just a shame the hotel was not a bit smarter as the potential is most certainly there. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a good base to get around Essex and into London.Jane Finch-Hutchins
