"Comfortable, convenient location, good value and friendly, helpful staff"
Lovely, spacious room and the hotel was warm and comfortable in the big freeze! Hotel was having some refitting work done but this caused no problems. Staff were very helpful. hotel very central and good value and breakfast was very good - except that they did run out of the vegetarian option. Would recommend this hotel for it`s good value and convenient .location

"Lovely rooms, good price and convenient location. Some members of staff were exceptionally helpful."
Lovely rooms, good price and convenient location. Some members of staff were exceptionally helpful, however one in particular was next to useless. When we checked in she was too busy having a chat with her friend to pay any attention to us and then was very abrupt that we were interrupting her conversation, incidentally the other person was also a member of staff and not a resident! When we were over charged in the car park, admittedly only by £2, she was rude and refused to help citing that it was our issue with the car park and not hers, she had endorsed the ticket and that was all that she had to do. A pity, she let down an otherwise excellent hotel!

"David who was overseeing the restaurant area offered absolutely brilliant service. Main course awfu"
The room was very clean and nicely furnished and very welcoming. Love the wardrobe layout and the fact that you have baths. Mattress and pillows a bit hard (husband didn`t sleep well). Staff couldn`t have been nicer. Loved the haggis starter but found the main course at the restaurant extremely bad value for money and swimming in oil. Breakfast on the other hand was fantastic.

"JUST WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR"
Very good central location, lovely comfortable room & affordable rates. Staff very friendly. Highly recommended if you are visiting Edinburgh.

"Disabled room"
Though not asked for, we were given a disablement room, which actually quite fitted our predicament this trip. One of us is waiting for a heart exam, and one has a very sore knee. You can imagine the hilarity. Everything was top notch and we will return.

"hotel room was really nice, easy to find and staff friendly, excellent breakfast"
only negative comment was the noise, a lot of noise between 3-5am so not great when you have children, so that spoilt stay a bit. Room was very big but that was not a normal "twin" room so maybe we were lucky. Woul duse again tho and ask for a room not above the hotel entrance!

"excellent hotel "
hotel excellent food excellent the only problem we had was we went for breakfast at 9 but waited 45minutes before being seated. hotel could really do with a bigger restaurant and there were other people waiting to be seated when we were eating. we were given tea and coffee whilst waiting. would recommend and use this hotel again

"Good Choice at very reasonable cost"
There were 10 of us and the rooms we were given were ideal. The staff were very helpful it was an easy walk to Princes Street and a taxi back (you might guess all females loads of shopping) was quite reasonable. We would go back.

"Lovely hotel, lots of interesting history."
Could do with a larger bar and restaurant for guests wishing to dine in the hotel. All the less a lovely well recommended hotel

"All of the staff were attentive and helpful - The room was pleasant and comfortable."
The map provided by the link is incorrect, hotel is 15 - 20 minute walk away from where it is shown, however the hotel itself is in the old maternity hospital which has been converted well to provide comfortable rooms. Having a large plasma screen over the dressing table rather than a mirror was a small disappointment. The staff are very friendly, but professional and attentive. The full Scottish Breakfast will set you up for the day. It is possible to explore the whole of Edinburgh on foot from this location providing you are fit and healthy, there are a lot of steep hills and steps around the city.

"would reccomend, ideally located for central city exploring."
interior clean, fresh and nicely decorated, Staff friendly and helpful, very pleased with the room, which was a family room, spacious, clean and added bonus of adjoining room for children, the breakfast menu was plentiful and varied, although sometimes cooked breakfast was wrong/ missed items, evening meal was ok, but not great, on the 1 occassion we tried it.

"Excellent Service"
My husband & I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to experience a lovely stay in Edinburgh city. We had nothing but excellent service while we stayed there overnight and will return to stay there on our next visit to Edinburgh, hopefully in the near future.

"very friendly staff, toasty warm, great location and had everything we needed"
Would recommend and use again . Reasonable price for a hotel so near the city and centre and it had real character ( used to be the Old Maternity Hospital - there`s nothing like a bit of history).

"excellent service.Great location"
Hotel was in wonderful location fro many sights - royal mile , castle, museum and university. Occasional noise from outside at night. Rooms perfectly sufficient and clean. However shame about the lightweight shower curtains that "chase" you round the bath as soon as the shower is turned on! Cant stand them!

"Disappointed with standard of service at Edinburgh City Best Western"
The rooms were large, clean and nice but the room service and at breakfast was very poor, we had to ask for everything. We ordered 3 portions of sandwiches from room service the night before and couldn`t eat two of them because of the poor quality of the meat and soggy bread. Paid £158 per room for bed and breakfast and thought it was expensive for the poor service we received. You could get 20% off parking at a certain car park, this wasn`t detailed anywhere on the website so we had to move our car from where we had initially parked on the Princes Car park £4.50 for 1 hour!!). We would have been better staying at the Premier Lodge 2 minutes away. Wouldn`t recommend the hotel.

"Good hotel, friendly staff"
Lovely breakfast served by attentive staff. Delicious evening meals. Nice rooms, very clean. No complaints at all other than the noise from the street which is unavoidable in a busy city. Would reccommend and certainly stay there again myself.

Breakfast not organised. \No where to sit. The member of staff in the dinning room totaly ignored me and left me standing there. At this point I asked the reception if I could have coffee in the lounge, which she served me with. Not at all impressed and would not stay there again. As I paid for this service I would like a refund please.

Had to wait a while for Breakfast as there wasn`t enough space and then no haggis which is what we really wanted to try.

"Clean and hospitable, if a little distant from the centre."
Not so keen on the quality of the breakfast, although the breakfast room staff were very attractive. Liked the biscuits in the room.

"Good location, but poor service."
The hotel is ideally situated but this does not make up for the poor service we received. There are not enough tables for breakfast so breakfast time was very, very busy and the staff serving have little `go` about them. On the second morning they had ran out of some of the basic iteams - incl butter and haggis.

"Very clean and central enough for everything you want in Edinburgh"
The only down side for me staying in this hotel was the price of the drink!I don`t mind paying a bit extra but the tarriffs for drink were extortionate!!!
