Getting there by plane:
Flights into Edinburgh Airport are serviced by an Express Bus (number 100). They run every 10 minutes during the day and take approx. 25 minutes to the centre of Edinburgh. Check out: Traveline Scotland
Getting there by train:
Trains to Edinburgh go into Waverley station. Waverley station is very central and exits into Princes Street.
Tipping:
10-15% is normal in cabs and restaurants (where a service charge is usually included in your bill).

Edinburgh Events

Edinburgh is renowned for both the Edinburgh International Festival and the Festival Fringe, both of which descend on the city in August, transforming it into a teeming haven for all manner of performers and the vast hordes that come to witness them. For a good chunk of the summer you could be mistaken for thinking that this picturesque Scottish city is the centre of the world.
But Edinburgh`s festivities don`t begin and end in August. Here`s our pick of Edinburgh`s event highlights.
June - Edinburgh Film Festival

Festival season kicks off with the Edinburgh Film Festival, an annual two week celebration of cinema from around that world that`s garnered a strong reputation over the course of its 67 year history and never fails to showcase some of the best emerging films. The festival has also played host to plenty of noteworthy premieres over the years, including Billy Elliot, Amores Perros, The Hurt Locker and Fish Tank.
July - Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

The Jazz and Blues Festival gets Edinburgh into the party spirit with a swinging selection of smoking hot shows. The festival is actually the biggest of its kind in the UK and usually promises more than 100 shows each summer, including appearances by some rather big names.
August - Edinburgh Art Festival

A more recent addition to Edinburgh`s summer festival lineup, the Art Festival is nonetheless the UK`s largest annual celebration of visual art, attracting over 250,000 visitors every year. The festival focuses on the best contemporary Scottish art alongside exhibitions of leading international art. Utilising the city`s leading galleries and art spaces, most of the festival is free to attend.
August - Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The biggest arts festival in the World, the Edinburgh Fringe transforms the city into a heady month-long carnival of comedy and theatre. Nothing quite matches the thrilling bustle of the festival and with over 50,000 performances and more than 3100 shows squeezed into 300 venues.
August - Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

This military extravaganza is a spectacular accompaniment to the festival and promises stunning theatrics from across the commonwealth set before the regal majesty of Edinburgh Castle. With breath-taking fireworks and bagpipe fuelled military pomp the Tattoo is not to be missed.

August - Edinburgh International Festival

A variety of world-class dance, theatre and classical music are showcased at this world famous celebration of the arts. As ever the festival`s culturally edifying programme showcases an inspiring array of global talent including a 40th anniversary performance by the Kronos Quartet focusing on collaborations with Philip Glass and Clint Mansell.
August - Edinburgh International Book Festival

The largest book festival in the world provides an unmatched forum for literary discussion and draws some of the biggest names in literature to discuss their work including Martin Amis, Will Self, Diana Gabaldon, Haruki Murakami and Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin.
