A brief history of West End Musicals
Opened on 7th May 1663, the Theatre Royal was the West Ends first theatre. Following a devastating fire just 9 years after it opened the theatre was redesigned by Christopher Wren and renamed as it is known to this day - Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Over the next 300 years some of London's best known theatres were gradually opened. Today the 'Theatreland' area of London, as it is commonly known, is home to approximately 40 venues showing a mix of musicals, plays and comedy performances. Les Miserables is the longest running musical in the West End, now playing at the Queens Theatre, it opened on 8th October 1985 and is in it's 31st Year. However, this pales in comparison to the West Ends longest running play, The Mousetrap, having opened on 25th November 1952, the show that plays at St Martins Lane Theatre is now in its mammoth 63rd year!

A brief history of the Royal Albert Hall
The opulent Royal Albert Hall is best known as being host to the annual Proms concerts which have been held each summer since 1941. The venue, which was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871 and named after her late husband Prince Albert, became one of London's most recognisable buildings. Many different acts and genres have performed at the Royal Albert Hall and it annually hosts more than 390 shows in its main auditorium, a further 400 events are held in the non-auditorium spaces. The Hall is located opposite Kensington Gardens and has a capacity of approximately 5,200 seats.
