The Show
Everyone's favourite nanny returns to the West End this October. The multi-award-winning Mary Poppins musical is a sensational collaboration from Disney and Cameron Mackintosh and is due back to its original home, The Prince Edward Theatre, to the delight of many fans. The popular story of Mary Poppins follows the naughty and mischievous Banks children, Jane and Michael. When the Banks children's nanny walks out after more bad behaviour from the pair a new nanny magically appears, and she seems to be "practically perfect in every way". Whilst the pair are under her care their parents, the stoic George and society woman Winifred, can't seem to understand each other. The whole story is narrated by the lovable "jack of all trades" Bert, who helps Mary Poppins and the Banks children throughout. The musical features favourites including "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Let's Go Fly a Kite".

History of Mary Poppins
Originally a series of children's books written by P.L. Travers, she wrote eight books which were published over a period of 54 years, starting in 1934. In 1964 Robert Stevenson directed a film version of the stories featuring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The film opened to critical acclaim and won five out of thirteen Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Julie Andrews. Eventually in 2004 a musical came into production with music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers with production by Walt Disney Theatrical and Cameron Mackintosh. The show was originally performed at the Bristol Hippodrome until it moved to the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End on December 15th, 2004. The show ran for just over 3 years, receiving multiple awards, before closing in 2008. However, the show then toured the UK between June 2008 and April 2009 with Caroline Sheen as Mary Poppins. More recently in 2015 the show toured the UK again with Zizi Strallen who will be reprising the role for the new West End production.
